Try #2

Here is bag #2 Blog_018.... I really like this size, I made it a little bit bigger.  9x12"  It is made with corduroy which I love, but the handles were a pain in the you know what to make.  So dont try it! (unless you really know how to sew, unlike me) I hand sewed in the liner again.  That is about it for today.  Have a great weekend.Blog_017_2

not to shabby

Watch out etsy.... I learned how to make bags!  One of my daily addictions....Bags, mostly diaper bag size.  I am mot a big fan of messenger bags (I don't understand why they have that extra flap on the outside, it is just one more step to stop me from the snack for my two year old)  My ideal bag is big enough to carry 2 diapers, some wipes, wallet and a small water bottle.  Anything bigger is an overnight bag and anything smaller is for the non-kid folk.   Here are some some things that I learned from making the bag....(I still have to figure out how to but the handles on just right)Blog_009

First, I had this fabric from a skirt that I love(d) and I fused it with some heavy interfacing.  This interfacing is a key to making bags.  I got mine at Walmart for pretty cheap.

Second, I watched a sewing lesson on You-Tube on how to sew a zipper.  It was pretty easy and worked pretty good. This is a 12" zipper.

Third, I made a liner for the inside, and I know there is another way to put it in, but I just hand sewed it in.  It was fun and really easy to do.Blog_010

So try it out, and tell me any hints!

Bad Day

Ktwbcaigq2aocazlo4k0cak17ga2cail3iz It has been one of those days, you know, one of those when nothing went really wrong but you still feel like you are going to cry if somebody talks to you...or you clean the house 50 times and it still feels dirty....or whatever you try to create has already been created already and alot better that you could have done it....or you struggle with for 4 year old from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.  It was one of those days, (and when I say you, I mean me).  Alright, enough self pity....I have a flourless chocolate cake calling my name and it is a half an hour to bed time.  I can do it!

True calling

I have lots of true callings in my life, I know most people have one...but I have 34 and counting.  One is becoming a non snobby horse ridding champion, another is a high school art teacher, another is a emergency rescue worker ( I am very calm under intense pressure)  The one I would like to talk about tonight is product design and packaging designer....I love looking at fun and creative packaging and I would love to some day create it, but today I am going to critic it.  Take a look at the Bic Soleil disposable razor.  41txm8nawvl__aa280_pibundle3toprigh

While I was at the local big box store last week I had to pick between 200 kinds of razors, I pick the one that was the closest to me and looked half way decent.  It turns out that the razor handle is red.  Have you ever cut your self shaving?  Well with this razor you think you are cutting yourself ever second.  I kept gasping thinking that the red I was seeing was me bleeding to death. Red is a horrible color choice!

So until next time when we discuss my life calling number 34(dude ranch owner and operator) be careful with those legs ladies and stay away from this razor!

Cookies

Cookie I have an amazing extended family here in town and two beutiful sister in laws who I adore....but there is one problem.  Cookies.  Emily has the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted.  Better than any bakery or store bought cookie.  In comparison, I also have a good choco chip cookie but it will always be in the shadows of the great Emily.  My other sister in law Belen has just about perfected the homemade oreo cookie.  They are stinken good, the kind of cookie that you justify eating 3-4 of them.  Now where does that leave me?  Sugar cookies?  Lemon bars?  I need somthing I can perfect.  I am not trying to be compatitional or anything, just want to up one on Emily is all.
