Was it worth it????

Blog_013 So here is daily obsession #340.  I have been working on this sucker for a couple of days now.  I have been wanting to work with wood for a long time.  Actually a really really long time.  It was kind of a small dream come true for me to actually get out J's dad's old chisels and put them to some basswood.  It is a soft wood with little vein so it is quite easy to carve.  I did have a minor injury (slight deep cut to the left middle finger) But was it worth it?  I would say yes, not just to the end result, but the actual process of wood carving.  I have been dreaming about it for the past couple of days do I don't know if this daily obsession is going away.....

A chance meeting...

Every once in a while I have a chance meeting with a kindred spirit.  Someone who I really connect Il_430xn_13746545 with.  An unexplainable bond that is like a good slap in the face.  It doesn't happen very often, in fact I can count the number of time it has happened on my hands.  The biggest one of these chance meetings was my husband, I was lucky enough to hold on to him, but others I just enjoy for the few seconds that we talk and I have to let them go.  Those meetings are special, each one unique and like a tender mercy of humanity.  To know that there are others out there that I can really connect with.  Today was one of those brief meetings.  I was at small injury clinic(the reason why is the next post)  and the doctor and I started to talk and I found out he was an artist on his time off.  We went on to talk about making art for the next 20 minutes much to the dismay of the nurse.  He explain that tomorrow was his last day working, and then he will retire.  He was excited to work on his sculptures full time, but sometimes he felt like what he was doing was petty, and he usually doubted his ability.  "But", he went on....When I start to sculpt again, everything washes away and I am in love with what I am doing."  I just nodded with my mouth open, in aw at the similarities of thought between us.  I enjoyed my time at the small injury clinic today.  I wish Dr. Bier luck with his sculpture and I hope it brings him joy.  I also cannot wait for the next meeting when I meet that next special one.

its been a great

Today seemed like the best kind of day.  It is the kind of day that country singers sing about.  Nothing amazing happened...we cleaned out the garage, we built a tool box at Lowe's, among other very normal things.  It just seemed great.  Part of the greatness was finishing Libby's quilt.  Thanks to Emily for helping me get it right, and finishing it for me.  I dont know what it is about two pieces of fabric and my addiction to fusing them together with batting in the middle.  But I will tell you what, there is nothing like pulling a new quilt out of the dryer after it has been washed.  When I put it on Libby's bed, she just kept saying thank you mom, thank you mom.  It has been a great day.  Blog_008

Letter to the inventor of the Dyson

Dear Sir Dyson, Mcsycak98bzhcacfrgt5cax8akeucap38_2

About 4 years ago I splurged and bought a Dyson Vacuum.  I mostly loved the design, but it had the hype of being a great vacuum.  Back then $400.00 was like $400.00, which is still a lot to me!  My first mistake was that I had astronomical expectations for this vacuum.  I wanted my carpet fluffed, spotless and brand new looking.  Two years later it was working OK, but the belt broke, which cost us about $75.00 to fix and about two weeks at the repair shop.  What do you do for two weeks with out a vacuum you ask? Well, you go and get a second vacuum, a little cheap one.  Well the little cheap one seemed to work so much better that my Dyson, that I started to get worried.  I guess when the Dyson got home, it was jealous and stopped working.  So, for the past two years and have ignored the obvious non function of my Dyson.  For example, I can usually feel the sand and dirt shooting up on the my legs, obviously not making up the suction tube.  Non function #2, it doesn't pick up dog hair at all.  Finally #3  I usually have to make a double check on all the connections on the machine to make sure everything is sealed up and ready to go because 95% of the time it isn't sealed up.  So about a week ago I caved.  I gave in to walmart and picked the $130 Eureka Boss which is rated better than the Dyson.  The results are in....I love it.  It is like my house hasn't been clean for 4 years (which I am sure it hasn't anyway)  So, to you Sir Dyson, Your machine didn't work for me.  I would like my money back and a full apology....in person.  Thank you, and I look forward to your visit.
